General information:
This presented model remains in fine preserved condition. We’ll mention once again that this watch is fitted with its authentic 1978 ’T swiss T’ onyx dial which is a pretty rare sight on its own. Rolex applied the same standard dial markings to their stone dials, even when they didn’t contain luminous material—using the “T” designation regardless. Over time, this practice changed, and the company transitioned to using just “Swiss” at the bottom of the dial. In later production runs and on service replacements, the marking evolved again to “Swiss Made”. Many of the 70s onyx dial Datejust and Day-Dates received replacement service dials at Rolex when send in for a service or movement overhaul. The dial features the correct yellow gold coronet and a gold-framed date window. In the top right en left flank of the rolex coronet, there are extremely thin, hard-to-spot hairlines within the onyx dial. They are rarely visible and only briefly noticeable under certain lighting conditions (see picture No.7). Contact us to request a video highlighting the hairlines.
The case shows signs of wear in the form of superficial scratches. The reference and serial number (5.533.8XX) between the lugs remain perfectly legible.
Watch is fitted on a later strap and an original yellow 18K solid gold Rolex buckle.
Movement has just received a full service by the professional team of Tempus Watch Service here in the Netherlands (receipt can be shown upon request).
Powered by the Rolex Cal. 3035 which was introduced in 1977, just one year before the production of this timepiece.
