Description
The tritium luminous material on the hands and hour markers has developed into a rich chicchi di mais — or “corn kernel” — patina that sits in natural harmony with the dial, giving the watch a cohesion that simply cannot be replicated. In 2018 the watch was serviced by Rolex, with the accompanying service card present; it has not been worn since, leaving the case, bracelet, crystal, dial, hands and movement all in genuinely outstanding condition. The 16550 was produced during a period when Rolex was refining the Explorer II’s identity ahead of the reference 16570, making original examples in this condition increasingly difficult to find. Straightforwardly, this is among the finer cream-dial 16550s we have ever encountered.
Why it stands out:
– Cream dial.
– Chicchi di Mais tritium.
– Exemplary condition.
– Rolex service card present (2018).
What you should know:
– Although authentic, luminous hands slightly different tone.
– Light stretch to bracelet (minimal).
General information:
As clearly shown in the pictures and described above, the watch remains in superb condition. We believe this watch received a slight polish by Rolex in 2018. The thickness of the lugs and original shape of the case and bevels tell us this watch merely a slight polish. Chances that this watch has never been polished is a possibility but looking at a 1984 watch, those chances are extremely small. The movement has been checked by our watchmaker and runs with superb accuracy. Comes with 12 months of mechanical guarantee with the exception of water and fall damage. The watch is accompanied by a green leather Rolex box and outer box, both in good condition.
Wrist circumference: Up to 20 cm.
