‘Mokum is still commonly used as a nickname in the Netherlands for the city of Amsterdam. The nickname was first considered to be ‘bargoens’, a form of Dutch slang, but in the 20th century it lost its negative sound and is now used by Amsterdammers as a nickname for their city in a sentimental context.’
About
My name is Jochem, I was born in Amsterdam and I have lived in this great city my whole life.
Vintage wrist- and pocket watches have intrigued me for as long as I can remember.
I first came into contact with the art of mechanical timepieces at the age of twelve. My older brother, was a very technical and curious boy who used to take apart everything that was mechanical just to put it back together again in order to understand how it worked. He inspired me to learn more while he was trying to fix an old pocket watch movement he bought for 1€ on an Italian flea market.
I was fascinated by the mechanics of the watch and the fact that my brother just bought an antique mechanical timepiece for just 1€. From that moment my fascination for vintage watches and their movements was born.
Not much changed about my passion during my bachelor studies on Art & Economics. In weekends, free time and even during classes I was on the hunt for aesthetically beautiful and sought after watches. By investing my profit in increasingly beautiful watches I was constantly learning and growing.
Vintage watches have become my passion and work. In my eyes I truly believe horology is a form of art. The inventiveness and craftsmanship watchmakers like Abraham-Louis Breguet and George Daniels have shown are, in my opinion, to be compared with Rembrandt and Van Gogh. Therefore, I consider myself extremely lucky to work with mechanical timepieces.
With the help of this platform, among other projects, I try to share and learn as much as possible in order to help collectors find that special watch. I also continue to develop my brand by offering more beautiful and special pocket and wrist watches time and time again.

Vintage wrist- and pocket watches have intrigued me for as long as I can remember.
I first came into contact with the art of mechanical timepieces at the age of twelve. My older brother (the one with the curly hair), was a very technical and curious boy who used to take apart everything that was mechanical just to put it back together again in order to understand how it worked. He inspired me to learn more while he was trying to fix an old pocket watch movement he bought for 1€ on an Italian flea market.
I was fascinated by the mechanics of the watch and the fact that my brother just bought an antique mechanical timepiece for the same price as a can of Coke. From that moment my fascination for vintage watches and their movements was born.
In my spare time while finishing high school, I started to focus more and more on buying and selling vintage watches. I spent a lot of time visiting auctions all across the Netherlands, buying my first ticket to Baselworld and visiting vintage watch fairs and shops whenever I could.

I therefore praise myself extremely lucky to work with mechanical timepieces.
