Description
Let’s start with the solid gold dial. The dial is relatively minimalistic due to the hour markers being engraved in the bezel. The florentine finishing which we find on the dial as wel as the case and bracelet add up to the quirky design of this 50s AP rarity.
Dial is Swiss signed with its Audemars Piguet signature perfectly legible. Elegant gold baton hands. The disco volante case measures 32mm. While this isn’t the largest of cases we find this watch to wear much larger because of its uncommon case design and the presence of the gold bracelet. In our honest opinion a perfectly balanced timepiece considering its eye-catching nature whilst remaining its relatively low-key elegance. The watch is completely unpolished. We find one thin scratch on the bezel between the two and four hour marker, see pictures. This watch is housing a hand wound caliber 2003 movement running with an accuracy of +5 seconds every 24 hours.
The clean and aesthetically stunning movement is adjusted to heat and cold, and set with 17 jewels of which five are adjusted. The rare matching bracelet bears a large AP logo on the folding clasp (which can be closed in three positions for different sized wrists).
The inside of the clasp shows multiple gold hallmarks and a full written Audemars Piguet signature.
Note that this is a non-integral detachable bracelet meaning that when preferred, this watch can be worn on a leather strap too. This rare piece is accompanied by its uncommon original red leather box which also remains in excellent condition making this set even more collectable.
