Girard Perregaux Rattrapante Split Seconds Chronograph – Ref. 9014

The Girard-Perregaux Ref. 9014 Rattrapante in steel sits in that rare intersection where technical ingenuity meets restrained design.
A split-seconds chronograph from the 1990s, it represents on of the most appreciated complications at a time when Swiss houses were reclaiming their footing after the quartz years. The case, in stainless steel rather than precious metal, feels deliberate—placing emphasis on the movement itself rather than status signaling. Inside beats GP’s split-seconds caliber, based on a Valjoux 7750 but highly modified with exclusive changes by Girard-Perregaux. The dial keeps things balanced and legible, avoiding the heavy-handedness that often plagues rattrapantes. For collectors who value technical watchmaking over trend, this reference stands as one of the more compelling steel complications of its era, and is definitely not easy to find these days, let lone in this condition.

General information:
The watch is in well-preserved condition, featuring an unpolished steel case, a scratch-free sapphire crystal, and an immaculate dial. Its case and dial layout echo the refined designs of the 1950s and 1960s. The hands follow this same classical inspiration, with facetted dauphine hour and minute hands, complemented by rattrapante chronograph hands—one with an open moon tip and the other with a fully closed circle. The fifth-seconds track is highlighted in red. The case boasts bold, beefy lugs and a wide bezel, giving the watch a strong presence on the wrist. Inside, the Valjoux cal. 7750 movement has been checked by our watchmaker and runs with superb accuracy (+1 sec/day), with all chronograph functions performing flawlessly.
