Omega Seamaster PloProf 600m Ref. 166.077

An Omega ‘Ploprof’ ref. 166.077 from ca 1972 (50+ years of age), in exceptional condition, which is rare for an Omega tool watch. The Omega Ploprof (PLOngeur PROfessionnel) is a watch with an incredibly rich history. Below you will find a well captured story on the Omega Ploprof from the famous British diver David Stevens, written by Hodinkee;

“One time, Stevens remained at 355 feet for three days straight, forcing him to spend 22 days in a decompression chamber before returning to land. In 1975, he walked into Leslie Davis of Kent, England – his local supplier of fine timepieces – to replace his Seiko. In the case in front of him, there was a watch that was twice the price of anything Rolex offered and looked drastically different than any watch he’d seen before. It was marked “For professional divers only.”
Stevens had found the perfect match for his deep-diving career. He walked out with an Omega Seamaster 600, known as the Ploprof.”

The case design with all its features, royal sizing (indispensable for its purpose) and the overall quirky aesthetics all add up to an undeniably interesting watch.
Odd shaped hands with a bright orange minute hand. Bi-colored tritium bi-rotating bezel and the striking red button (to serve as a lock-system for the bezel to turn).
The case shows to be original MK1 with the ‘U’ shaped case cut-out for the position of the crown. B2 b bezel with sharp minute triangles and ’softer’ edged markers underneath every decimal minutes marker.

Original and likewise exceptional condition Omega Ref. 1266/237 ‘Shark Mesh’ bracelet in stainless steel.

Automatic Cal. 1002 movement is keeping accurate timing. Quick set date function works perfectly.
Watch is accompanied by a red Omega service pouch.
