Description
Let’s start with the movement; The Valjoux Cal. 88 VZHCL (“Valjoux Counter Heures Calendrier Lune”) is a hand-winding chronograph movement in the Valjoux 72 family with “triple date” and moon phase. It was used in upscale dress watches and continues to be desirable due to its functionality and the beauty of the components. The movement has a long production time span of 27 years from 1947 to 1974.
The caliber was used by a number of brands such as Heuer and Universal making these Valjoux 88 time pieces the most complicated watches out of their production line.
The watch remains in superb condition with an all original and unrestored dial, which is very rare with these pieces.
The lay-out of this dial is sought after/appreciated because of the ‘big-eye’ chronograph sub-dials, gilded hour markers and striking blue date indication.
Golden ‘leaf’ hands, a blued steel centre seconds chronograph hand and original red date hand.
The 36mm case is made of stainless steel and has been professionally repolished in the past.
The snap back case back bears a makers signature together with its serial number.
The Valjoux 88 caliber is clean and runs with great accuracy (+2 seconds every 24 hours).
All functions work smooth as well as the quick set options.
Accompanied by high quality brown suede leather strap.
