Description
Powering the watch is the caliber 1030, Rolex’s automatic workhorse of the era, with its distinctive butterfly rotor — a movement that was already being phased out in favour of the improved 1530 series at precisely this period, making this an example caught at a transitional moment in the manufacture’s history. The movement beats reliably and the overall condition of the piece reflects a watch that has been respectfully kept over its near-seventy-year life. For the collector with an appreciation for early Explorer references, this 6610 example ticks many boxes.
Why it stands out:
– Stunning aesthetics.
– Rare riveted ref. 7206 bracelet with No 80 endlinks in exemplary condition with little stretch.
– Well running automatic ‘butterfly rotor’ Cal. 1030.
What you should know:
– Normal wear to case/bracelet consistent with age.
General information:
Superb condition Rolex Explorer 6610 with, in our opinion, a beautifully aged gilt black dial with all writing perfectly visible. The dial shows some playful and uncommon small red/brown dots visible in certain light fall. The plexi crystal has a small nick on the lower edge which can be removed. Reference and serial number (360.xxx) between the lugs are legible. Movement is running well and has been checked by our watchmaker. The 7206 Oyster bracelet shows a date stamp for the second quarter of 1964. Watch is accompanied by vintage green leather watch box.
Wrist circumference: Up to 19 cm.
