Stunning example of the Rolex Explorer 1016 ‘Frog foot’ from 1966 offered for 17.950€.
This superb 1016 has been very well preserved throughout the past 56 years.
The appreciated matte black dial has a very attractive patinated lume showing no flaws at all. The iconic 3-6-9 Explorer dial can be considered one of the more famous and striking dials made by Rolex.
The luminous hour markers share the exact same colour as all three original lume filled hands. The dial shows a thin scratch which is only visible in certain light.
The 36mm stainless steel Oyster case is for many collectors the preferred size since the watch still gives a very elegant feel, while its wrist presence is certainly there.
The case remains unpolished showing some normal wear here and there such as scratches, we continue to advise not to polish any vintage watch (especially not an example in a good and honest condition like this).
Reference 1016 and serial number (1.285.XXX) between the lugs are clearly legible.
The Cal.1570 movement is clean and runs smooth with accurate precision.
The watch is fitted on the original 7836 bracelet with correct 358 end links. The bracelet remains in honest and good condition with normal period correct stretch. (see picture 10 to see the bracelet at full stretch!)
The watch is accompanied by a very rare green leather ‘coffin’ box by rolex as well as a booklet and a Rolex sale tag emblem.
