Zenith El Primero Automatic Chronograph MK1 · 38mm · 1970s

This watch has been sold.

The Zenith A386 stands as one of the most historically significant chronographs produced by Zenith. Introduced in 1969, it housed the groundbreaking El Primero movement, among the world’s first automatic high-frequency chronograph calibers; 3019 PHC. Offered here is a coveted MK1 execution, as we can see by the plain screw down case back without emblem and the ‘no-groove’ smooth overlay between the lugs and the casing. Beyond its technical innovation, the A386 established a design language that remains instantly recognizable, defined by its tri-color registers and balanced proportions. The case, dial, and movement together reflected a forward-thinking approach at a time of intense competition in chronograph development. Decades later, the model continues to be appreciated for its clarity, functionality, and enduring aesthetic restraint. The A386 is not simply a vintage chronograph, but a carefully considered milestone in watchmaking history.
