Breitling Clam-Shell Gilt Dial Chronograph – 1940s

8,100

The Breitling Clamshell chronograph from the 1940s captures a moment when the brand was refining its tool-watch identity while experimenting with more elegant case constructions. Its distinctive two-piece “clamshell” waterproof case—an early solution for improved durability—adds a subtle technical charm without overwhelming its refined presence. The gilt Breguet numeral dial brings a warm, classic tone that reflects mid-century design sensibilities. Inside, the Venus 175 movement provides the reliable, column-wheel chronograph performance that defined many of Breitling’s pieces of that era. The overall aesthetic feels measured and purposeful, with a few attractive aspects that speak to collectors of both vintage Breitling or the ‘better’ cased 40s chronographs.
