Piaget Protocole Rare Onyx/Pave Dial – Factory Diamond – 81577 C 577

If a solid gold Protocole still leaves you wanting more, Piaget raises the bar with this exceptional showstopper, reference 81577 C 577.
In our view, only a select few brands can incorporate such an abundance of gemstones and onyx while maintaining a watch’s elegance—and Piaget is certainly one of them.

Description

This Piaget Protocole reference 81577 C 577 is a refined expression of 1980s quartz-era elegance, where high horology met high jewelry with seamless precision. Crafted in an era when Piaget led the charge in ultra-thin quartz movements, this model stands apart with its diamond-set case and integrated bracelet—each stone meticulously placed to accentuate the piece’s architectural geometry (with legendary Jean‑Claude Gueit having a hand in this at that time at Piaget).
The dial, a tasteful interplay of black onyx and diamond pavé, strikes a confident balance between opulence and restraint. For collectors or connoisseurs, this piece offers a rare opportunity to acquire one of the cooler configurations within the 80s Protocole production line which we haven’t come across ever before.
The watch wears beautifully with a suit or for instance something less formal like a hoody. Weighing 108 grams, it delivers a satisfying heft for the wearer.

Why it stands out:
– Full factory diamond set case and bracelet.
– Onyx/diamond dial.
– Unrestored and well preserved condition.

What you should know:
– Hairline in onyx.

General information:
This Piaget Protocole remains in original, unrestored condition and includes several elements of interest to collectors of the brand.
The dial is constructed of five alternating vertical lines, combining diamond-set gold bars and onyx strips. There is a visible crack in the onyx at the lower right corner only visible with certain light fall. Powered by Piaget’s in-house 8P2 quartz movement, which features a unique time-setting mechanism which is functioning as intended. The integrated bracelet is easily adjustable in sizing and shows no signs of stretch.
The bracelet and case have not been polished in its past retaining its original distinct edges and bevels, without any dents of noticeable scuffs.
Just to be clear once more, this is a full Piaget factory produced time piece and in the unrestored and unaltered condition as it once left the factory in the 1980s. A similar model is depicted in the ‘Watches & Wonders – Piaget by Franco Cologni’ book, page 193.
