Description

An exceptional Piaget chronograph featuring a 38mm stainless steel case with stepped bezel and a rare hermetic screw-down case back.
In its royal sized case both in thickness and diameter, this watch offers serious wrist presence.
Specially commissioned by Piaget at Leonidas, this is possibly a one off timepiece.

The watch remains in extraordinary condition, with a beautifully aged crème-colored dial showing some minor signs of use. Uncommon radium Arabic hour markers perfectly complement the rich patina of the ‘pencil’ hands. Old Piaget dial signature as we see with all their 40s/50s/60s pieces as well as the timepieces produced by other makers retailed by Piaget.
The Geigerteller shows that the dial is correctly radioactive because of the use of radium lume (Radium 226). When the dial is exposed to UV-light we correctly see a even glow and almost direct fade of the luminous material.

The case appears to have seen minimal wear, with razor-sharp lugs and a pristine stepped bezel. The brushed steel sides remain just as sharp, free of serious scratches or dents.

A rare feature of this timepiece is its two-part hermetic case back, with the screw thread positioned on the inside edge—an uncommon design that enhances movement protection. Additionally, the eight half-circle notches on the case back further distinguish it within the world of vintage watches.

Completing this remarkable piece is the superb Leonidas-signed Valjoux 22 movement, which remains impeccably clean and runs with outstanding accuracy.
