Description
A stunning condition Ref. 1016 Rolex Explorer from 1967 (serial 1.733.xxx).
Honest and unrestored condition with an incredibly attractive overall appearance.
The clean matte black dial has an attractive patinated lume remaining in immaculate condition. The iconic 3-6-9 Explorer dial can be considered one of the more famous and striking dials to be made by Rolex, gaining a lot of interest by collectors in the past decade(s).
The lume of the dial and those of the hands show a slight change in color. This can be explained by the fact that the lume of the hands occasionally patinates quicker in comparison to the dial (the luminous hands are exposed to humidity/changes of temperature from both the front and back side whilst the dial lume isn’t).
The steel Oyster case has four sharp lugs. Little wear on the case besides minor scratches (one moe distinct scratch on the bezel near the 6 hour position).
The watch is fitted on a later, yet very cool ‘Pateted’ bracelet. Lots to read about this special Rolex bracelet so we encourage any interested buyer to do so. In brief; the bracelet features a ‘Pateted’ stamp instead of a correctly ‘patented’ signature which circulated for a short period before it was noticed. These typo’s or misprint are rare and sought after in the world of horology.
Between the lugs, the reference 1016 and serial number are perfectly visible (pictures can be send upon request).
The Cal.1570 movement is clean and runs smooth with accurate precision.
